I’ve been meaning to share these images for a while now but have just been so busy. I’m still in the thick of prime wedding season here in Vermont. The leaves are just starting to change colors and the cooler fall weather is here. So I think now is a good time to go back and visit the hot, tropical destination wedding which kicked off my 2011 wedding season. I’m really excited to finally share these images! Kendra and Christopher’s amazing wedding was in the Dominican Republic this past May. I posted their wedding images but hadn’t yet shared their engagement and ‘trash the dress’ sessions. The day before the wedding we took a stroll on the beach for some romantic engagement photos. This was a great time to practice some new lighting techniques and I was lucky to have the help of Taryn & TJ, who are Kendra & Christopher’s close friends and also former wedding clients of mine. You can see images from their 2009 wedding in downtown Burlington, Vermont on my website. Often an engagement session happens months before the wedding and serves as a great opportunity for couples to become comfortable with their wedding photographer. It’s a great time to become friends. Couples are always surprised at how much fun they have and realize that the bride/groom photo session is a part of the wedding day to look forward to. We were all so excited for Kendra and Christopher’s tropical destination wedding that we decided to wait until the day before the wedding for an engagement photo session on the beach. This way we could document the romantic time they shared in the Dominican Republic leading up to their wedding day. The following day was their awesome wedding on the beach at the Majestic Colonial Resort; make sure you check out that post.. The day after the wedding, Kendra decided to surprise Christopher and went to the salon and had her hair cut short. I was lucky enough to be there when Christopher saw Kendra with short hair for the first time ever. What a moment! She was nervous but his reaction was great…he loved it. She looked so cute! That evening we headed back out for a ‘trash the dress’ session. Technically, the dress wasn’t really trashed during this session, it only needed to be dry cleaned to be like new again. We started by cruising around the resort looking for cool new locations for bride/groom formals which we didn’t have enough time for on the wedding day. We moved to the beach as the sun set and finished in the pool under the stars. Shhh…don’t tell the resort staff…because we weren’t supposed to be in the pool after dark! With the nervous energy of the wedding behind them, Kendra and Christopher were totally relaxed and we all had a blast with this photo session!
