Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful family from Middlebury, VT. With all the rain we’ve been getting this summer I was worried I’d have to re-schedule yet another photo shoot; lately it’s been the norm. When Nicolle called me at the last minute I was sure she was about to pull the plug, but instead of asking to re-schedule she said ‘let’s go for it!’; the clouds broke and the rain had stopped at their house. North, an hour’s drive away, I looked out my window as the rain came pouring down and thought, “what are our chances”? Would another downpour force us indoors for the entire session? I drove to their home as quickly as I could, praying for dry skies…Well, it rained lightly on and off throughout our session, but nothing substaintial. So we played in the rain and captured some lovely, beautiful moments. Matt and Nicolle have such a great property, the perfect place for their family photo session. Their son Ben was so much fun to photograph, what a little bundle of energy! He was running, jumping and practically flying around the whole time…it was like trying to photograph an action sports star! I knew our window of opportunity could be short considering how much energy Ben was spending running around in between all the ‘snuggly moments’ with his mom and dad. So I worked as fast as I could, capturing as much as possible until the inevitable moment came…Ben was done. I have to hand it to him though, he did an amazing job and was such a joy to photograph! When I photograph a family I always encourage lots of play and natural interactions between the parents and kids…trying to avoid having the parents discipline the kids into a formal portrait. Achieving a beautiful, traditional family portrait is also a goal, but I find it much easier to accomplish if we just let the fun guide us rather than trying force it. We accomplished the best of both worlds in the is session, so I was so happy for that! I greatly enjoyed my time with this beautiful family.
Adam, we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the photos! Thank you for such a quick turn around. There are so many beautiful ones, I honestly don’t know how we will pick for our walls. You did an amazing job with some real challenges… the rain and a very active, little boy. I love how you can see the rain in some of the pictures. They look simply gorgeous.
It was such a pleasure to work with you. You have such a great spirit and a way of making everyone around you so comfortable! We send you a big THANK YOU for making our first family photo session so special.
Blessings,
Nicolle, Matt and Ben
Wow … these pictures capture the personality of this wondeful family perfectly.
